Definately feeling herx now.
Does anyone know of any studies explaining the connection between glutamate/the amygdala/ and th1 illness?
As a previously diagnosed bi-polar patient, I am observing mood changes associated with herx/ and or light exposure.
In these changes I actualy have to remind myself that thinking patterns influenced by what I believe[from previous pre MP studies] to be glutamate targeting my amygdala will disappear as soon as I stop herxing.
The fear and fight or flight response literally change my perception of life itself,
and then gradually disappears.
I can also make it disappear with Ativan, which I think somehow blocks the effects of glutamate on the amygdala.

Sean,
I think you're only likely to get an answer to this one on a scientific level if Dr M by any chance looks in. But on a practical level, don't forget you can control your IP with meds dosing and timing.
My immune system reaction (immunopathology) is too strong. What should I do?
What is a neuro immunopathology?
Bipolar Disorder
The effect of light on the brain (Amygdala)

When I wake up, I always feel like I haven't any problems. For the first hour of the day I feel like everything is going great.
Then dizziness and low frustration level hits and I am gone.
Only at night do I regain stabity.
Is this common with members?

Sean,
I had similar troubles when first on the MP. I tracked them down to not going dark enough. I could mark my worst troubles to 1 hour after breakfast, and 1 hour after lunch. Turns out the kitchen dining room hadn't been fully blacked-out. My wife wasn't on the MP at the time, and so wanted at least one room with some light. It wasn't very light, but it was still too much.
My guess is that you are or have become very light sensitive. Anyway, that's the first thing to check. I'm not sure how you are going to do this, since you previously indicated that you can't avoid direct sunlight exposure. Maybe go real dark on a weekend day?
Have you had your d-levels checked lately? If very low, then light has more of an effect on the relative levels of hormones.

thanks for your info chris
are you still as sensitive?
if not, how long were you hyper sensitive and when did it began to change?

Sean,
I've been on the MP 4 years. It was several years of very strong light sensitivity, and has backed down considerably in the last year.
I was strongly light sensitive even before starting the MP, so may be an extreme case.

I am starting to comprehend minocycline and the immune system a bit better.....for right now at least.
When I started 75mg. mino......I could start to feel it in my heart right at 2 hrs.
Went to bed, woke up feeling much better.....maybe this is the 'eyewall' of the storm,
because right about 15 hrs after taking the mino...it came back and I am in bed.....now I guess my immune system is going after all the l-forms that were upset by the minocycline.
Seems a bit worse on the secong half, maybe this last longer because the immune system stays active till the ext mino because of the Benicar?

Sean,
Please keep reading in the MP 'library', especially the MP FAQs - keep the link in your 'favourites'. See What should I know about Minocycline?

I definitely feel sharper on minocycline.....my cognitive skills and ability to communicate are much improved after a couple of hours of dosing.
What does this mean?
Do you have to feel bad to heal?
I feel the herx but it comes and goes, like I said....in the beginning and the end.....but it is not the totally debilitating state that I was experiencing before MP or during Benicar only.
Any thoughts on this?
I can also tolerate a little more light.

Sean,
The link I gave you includes,
So the reason you get worse immunopathology on day 2 is because those particular bacteria killed are susceptible at the lower concentrations, on day 2. You will find other times, as you continue with the protocol, where the immune system response increases on day 1, as well. I suspect it depends on which bacteria are being hit and where they are located.
If you look at the graph in that link showing the concentration of mino in the blood at different times in the 2-day cycle, it sheds light on why you feel sometimes better, sometimes worse.
No, you don't have to be dying of IP to be healing! Many see huge improvements in Phase 1. But you should also feel some of the discomforts of symptoms that are briefly exacerbated. What's your 25-D? If that's high it can delay healing.

Do you need to fast before getting a 25-D test?
Thanks

It has definately been up and down on the MP.
Sometimes you think your never gonna herx again and sometimes you wonder if it is ever going to end.
Two questions:
Has anyone had muscle weakness with chewing/talkng. All of the sudden I have no endurance with repetitve motion...is this herxing or a side effect of Benicar?
Also when I am sleeping I wake up with tightness in my chest..and my limbs are asleep! As if there is no blood flowing to them....would love to know if this is something someone knows about.
Thank you
Sean

It's a pretty common herx. You'll get that same effect in various muscle groups.

My light tolerance seems to wane and come back again according to my herx schedule.
My question is this:
Is it the inflammation/cytokine release that causes the light sensitivity?

Sean,
If you re-read phase 1, you will notice that they talk about hormone readjustment when starting Benicar. That's because the Benicar causes the 1,25-D levels to drop.
Exposure to light causes the 1,25-D levels to rise quickly. Both the rise and the subsequent fall cause discomfort. It's the hormone adjustment that's causing the light sensitivity.
It's often a similar feeling to a herx, but it's not the same mechanism.

Wow ,Chris you have an incredible story...very inspiring.
I have more courage just reading it.
The family thing I find is tough when they don't really understand the MP and think your just trying to do something...anything to get better.I go through this a lot but I don't fight it anymore.
I am so very glad I read the part about mood shift's and paranoia/depression.
I had a psychotic episode after being diagnosed with cat scratch fever....and went manic several times afterwards...then I started smoking a lot of pot...which backed off my immune system but destroyed my resistance and really allowed the bacteria to spread all over the place....ended up with neuropathy on top of that. But I go through mood swings when I herx. People seem different sometimes....my wife becomes hard to interpret..things seem ie they are coming to a horrible end...and then suddenly it is gone.....and even better, more stable moods than I have ever had prevail....usually when I take extra mno.
I t is tempting for me to ramp up mino because for a while I feel so much better,
when I take less I seem to feel worse...but I know I am probably kiling more bacteria.
Thanks also for bringing me back to the sunlight/1,25D connection.
Sometimes I feel so much better I get out in more light than I should and there goes my good feeling.
Not to say I haven't gone through some very bad times....when I started Benicar I couldn't function at all, and I don't know what to expect from phase two.
I do know that after a relatively short time on the MP my brain is performing such better....which makes me a little suspicious...I am getting my 25D tested this week,
my 1,25 was 58.....which may or may indicate a lot more herxing...who can say.
Anyway...thanks for responding.....many more of my friends who are suffering are fixing to read your story.
Sean

Can anyone recommend a BOOK OR WEBSITE that could explain more about cytokines and their receptors where the average patient could understand more about them?
maybe something like "CYTOKINES[AND THEIR RECEPTORS] FOR DUMMIES"?
