Briefly list your diagnosis or symptoms. (around 2 lines at the most).
Irritable Bowel Syndrome. 'Indeterminate colitis' - granular, erythematous, and congested tissue in my recto-sigmoid colon (affecting approximately 1/3 of my colon). Chronic 'dry eye syndrome', depression, anxiety, heavy brain fog, very poor memory, severe fatigue/low energy, heavy food and chemical intolerances.
-The date the blood was drawn
01/07/2008
-Which lab did the tests?
I believe it was LabCorp.
-Was the 1,25-D sample was frozen for shipment?
Unknown - so I believe it was not.
-How long have you been avoiding foods with vitamin D in them?
At the time I was not, actually doing the opposite, supplementing with large levels of vitamin D3.
-How long have you been avoiding sun/lights?
At the time of testing I was not at all.
-List all meds, supplements (both prescription and OTC) you have been taking and why.
Around the time of supplementation:
B-complex, Vitamin A from fish liver oil, vitamin D3 in supplement form, concentrated DHA/EPA fish oil supplement, pancreatin digestive enzymes,
-When and for how long have you taken prednisone or any other immunosuppressant in any form?
None other than vitamin D3 in supplement form.
-When and for how long did you take Vitamin D supplements (including any vitamin-mineral supplements), omega-3 supplements and/or any kind of fish oil?
Began with vitamin D supplements in November of 2006 which included cod liver oil, and then actual D3 supplements on and off from that period of time till just a few days ago.
-Were you taking Benicar when the sample was drawn?
No.
-Were you taking an ARB or or an ACE inhibitor when the sample was drawn?
No.
- Include the measurements for both tests, 1,25D & 25D, noting either ng/ml and pg/ml or the metric equivalent; nmol or pmol.* (ug/l = ng/ml)
25D = 63 ng/ml
1,25D = 63 ng/ml
Note: I confirmed with the nurse reading the test results that the 1,25D unit of measure was listed as 'ng' and not 'pg', and she confirmed it was in fact listed as '1,25 dihydroxy D3 at 63 ng/ml.' I'm not sure if this is a mistake or even a possibility, but this converts to the following in pg/mls (multiplied by 1000):
1,25D = 63000 pg/ml
Note: If it is in fact 63 pg/ml, this still appears to be quite high to me. But if it were in fact 63 ng/ml, then that is quite excessive and very troubling to me. My doctor informed me my D levels were within 'normal range' of course.
Additional note: I was on Accutane for 3 months when I was 18 years old. "(

Jayppers,
If the 1,25-D were really 63 ng/ml you would most apt be dead by now; so I will assume it was 63 pg/ml and that you are able to read this. I find it rather amusing that a lethal level of 1,25-D can be reported by your doctor as "normal".
Your 1,25-D is very elevated at 63pg/ml (the population average is 25-29 pg/ml). It is 3.58 sigma high and based on population studies, 100 % of the population would be expected to have a lower number. If sample was not frozen the number would have been even higher.
Your 1,25-D is above the maximum of 45pg/ml listed in the Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy (15 Oct 2006 online). At levels above about 42 pg/ml, the 1,25-D (generated by the Th1 inflammation) begins to stimulate bone osteoclasts, causing bone to be resorbed (dissolved) back into the bloodstream. Not only does this lead to osteoporosis, but also to calcium being deposited into soft tissue of the body, including the lungs, breasts, and the kidneys (where it forms kidney stones). Please see Osteoporosis, osteopenia and Th1 illness.
Your level of elevation suggests inflammation in major organs such as the heart, liver and lungs.
When should I be concerned about cardiac symptoms?
Your 25-D of 63ng/ml is terribly high and reflects your reported vitamin D supplementation. Because 25-D is immunosuppressive, you need to avoid ALL sources of Vitamin D to get it down to a therapeutic level of 12ng/ml or less. Please see Foods To Avoid and The importance of avoiding vitamin D.
"The 25-D seems to be the most critical factor as to whether the immune system is able to start working. Any level of 25-D above about 20ng/ml is likely to be acting as an immunosuppressant, with an action very similar to that of corticosteroids." Dr. Trevor Marshall, Ph.D.
Your D-tests, diagnosis and symptoms indicate Th1 inflammation. Please see Symptoms of Hypervitaminosis-D and you may recognize a few more. You will not get well and your health will continue to deteriorate if you don't treat the underlying bacterial cause of Th1 inflammation with the MP. Please see Is the MP an applicable treatment for my disease?
Most supplements and many medications must be avoided on the MP.
Our clinical study is temporarily closed to enrollment. As vacancies occur, we will admit subjects based on an application. To obtain an application forum, please send an email to marshallprotocol2@yahoo.com with 'request MP application' in the subject line.
Best, P.B.

The fact that both results were given as exactly the same number and in the same units would make me very suspicious that there has been a copy/paste type error; i.e. perhaps they accidentally reported the same result twice instead of reporting the results of the two separate tests. The fact that 1,25-D was listed in ng/ml is on its own reason enough to query the lab.

Thank-you, P.B.!
And yes, I am still very skeptical of the lab values -- especially the duplicate figures. I will be following up with my physician's office very soon to bring this to my doctor's attention and determine if they perhaps mis-reported the number.
I will inform them that a 1,25OHD3 of 63 ng/ml is practically lethal and not possible and for them to re-check this figure for me.
I am also attempting to find a doctor who will be willing to help me re-test using the MP preferences (freezing, etc.) to as to obtain a more accurate and up-to-date D metabolite test.
Thanks again for your feedback and wish me luck in my journey in trying to heal. I am desperately searching for a way out of this seemingly endless cave, and I truly am grateful for your time and energy put into my post.
Regards and best wishes to you,
Jason

And by the way, I've stopped any and all forms of ingestible D (from foods and supplements). Today I've felt pretty exhausted and run down, and this is day 2 of no D. I'm also avoiding sun and bright light exposure as much as possible, and wearing sunglasses (although I don't have the MP special ones yet - and won't until after I get my D metabolites re-tested).
I realize that it will take some time to get my D level down naturally by avoiding ingested D and sun/bright light. I'm hoping I can get things rolling soon before I start any potential increased immunopathology from my declining 25OHD levels and increased VDR activation (innate immune waking), assuming of course my D test is indicative of Th1 inflammatory disease.
In light of the education that ingested D goes to 25OHD and suppresses the innate immune system, I was taking some pretty scarily high doses of D thinking that it would heal my condition. Now I know that the exact opposite is most likely true " ( It's pretty aggravating to think that the whole time I've been trying to enhance and strengthen my immune, I've actually been doing the exact opposite *sigh*. Live and learn I suppose. Just glad I finally learned about the truth!
Hope its OK I post my thoughts and comments in this thread until I can get my new D test completed. I will be sure to post my questions in my special personal question thread.
Thanks and best regards,
Jason
Mod add: see Should I wear NoIRs, avoid natural light exposure and eliminate vitamin D before starting Benicar?

My doctor's Nurse did not fully understand and communicate the 1,25D3 results. This is because there weren't any to report! There was only a 25OHD (total) = 63 ng/ml, 25OHD3 = 63 ng/ml, and 25OHD2 = less than 4.
I will need to have completely new D metabolite tests run. My previous tests certainly show my previous supplementation, but do not conclusively show Th1 inflammation, it seems -- need to get my hands on a 1,25D3 metabolite test and a fresh 25OHD.
Am still very nervous about going in and requesting this. I always feel my doctors and nurses are looking down at me... like I'm just a child or something. It is very frustrating.
Wish me luck. Thanks,
Jason
Good luck, P.B.

Jason,
Your 1,25-D is very elevated at 78pg/ml (the population average is 25-29 pg/ml). It is 5.16 sigma high and based on population studies, 100% of the population would be expected to have a lower number.
Your 1,25-D is above the maximum of 45pg/ml listed in the Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy (15 Oct 2006 online). Please see Osteoporosis, osteopenia and Th1 illness.
Your level of elevation suggests inflammation in major organs such as the heart, liver and lungs.
When should I be concerned about cardiac symptoms?
Your 25-D of 40ng/ml is high and reflects your reported former vitamin D supplementation. Avoidance has helped it come down from the terribly high 63ng/ml.

You will not get well and your health will continue to deteriorate if you don't treat the underlying bacterial cause of Th1 inflammation with the MP. Please see Is the MP an applicable treatment for my disease?
Most supplements and many medications must be avoided on the MP.
Our clinical study is closed to enrollment.
