Carol,

Your 25-D of 10 ng/ml is low for someone not avoiding vitamin D in their diet and/or supplements. It suggests a rapid conversion of this pre-hormone to the active metabolite 1,25-D, and is indicative of Th1 inflammation.

You will want to diligently avoid ALL sources of Vitamin D to keep it down at a therapeutic level of 12ng/ml or less. Please see:

l OTC supplements were safe. Which ones should I be concerned about?

Your D ratio is elevated at 4.9, and clear indication that you have Th1 inflammation, and that the Marshall Protocol (MP) will help you to get well.

Your 1,25-D of 49 pg/ml is 2.11 sigma high. Based on population studies, 98.26% of the population would be expected to have a lower number.

It is above the Merck Physicians Guide maximum of 45pg/ml. At levels above about 42 pg/ml, the 1,25-D (generated by the Th1 inflammation) begins to stimulate bone osteoclasts (http://tinyurl.com/dp7a9), causing bone to be resorbed (dissolved) back into the bloodstream. Not only does this lead to osteoporosis, but also to calcium being deposited into soft tissue of the body, including the lungs, breasts, muscle bundles (Fibromyalgia) and the kidneys (where it forms kidney stones). A Review - Vitamin D and Calcium in Sarcoidosis

Your 1,25D would most likely be higher than this result shows if you weren't on either Benicar or Prednisone. Remember that Prednisone reduces the 1,25D by 25 to 40%. Benicar also reduces 1,25D levels.

Beginning to avoid sunlight now, which is also part of the MP, may also help you start to feel better sooner.

Even if you are fortunate enough to find a doctor who is willing to prescribe the MP, no doctor has the time to fill in all the information that the patient needs to follow the MP and get well. The more you know ahead of starting it, the easier it will be. It is up to the patient to be sure that the doctor follows the MP as it is written.

Thank you very much for the fast response and for the confirmation. I got my NoIRs today and am reading as much as possible.
This work that you all do is a godsend!

Dear MP staff,
I started on the MP last year but quit when the Herxing became so bad. My Doctor recommended that I go a ‘milder’ route with Doxycycline, Azithrmycin and Valtrex. After several months, I had not improved. The doctor then suggested Heparin to thin the blood to allow the antibiotics better access to the bacteria. I developed frequent nosebleeds and stopped this regimen.
I’m on Benicar (40mg every 6 hours) now and will start Minocycline June 22. Do I need to do anything more?
Please advise.
Many thanks.
Carol Wacker

Hi Carol,

Thank you for copying your earlier thread from the study site which explains the background to your current situation.

Did you wean off your steroid medications before you started the MP, as Lottie advised?  Also I see Human Growth Hormone in your signature line, which is contraindicated, but perhaps that's out of date now?

As you're on the MP independently, your doctor will guide you through Phase 2.  S/he must be a member of the study site in order to access the Phase 2/3 guidelines and join the private Professionals' Forum.  S/he should send an email to Moderators@MarshallProtocol.com listing their desired username and password.

You are welcome to ask any non-medical questions here in your own personal questions thread :)

Julia,

Thanks for your reply. I researched again through the list of banned medicines. I could not find HGH as banned. Please clear this up for me?

Also, I need a list of MP doctors in Southern California. I sent an email but did not get a response.

Also, I need to know how to SORT the list of members by location. Do you know how to do this?

Again, thanks.

Carol,

Please see Why should I avoid hormone supplementation? especially the section on HGH, where Dr Marshall says, All the steroid hormones weave a delicate balance between each other... ...I haven't specifically tested HGH to see what it affects most, but I did find that all the steroids affect all the Type 1 nuclear receptors, to greater and lesser extents. It is a homeostasis, a balance.  Haven't you ever wondered why a disproportionate number of sportsmen end up with Sarcoidosis?
To request the doctor list please post in REQUEST FOR DOCTORS LIST (click here) Please READ INSTRUCTIONS first.. thank you..

August 25, 2008 Thank you so much for responding. Currently taking Benicar 4x a day and Minocycline 100mg every other day. Herxing lessened quite a bit and is only in shoulders and hands with an occasional pain in the right ear. Recent blood tests show: Vitamin D 25 Hydroxy at 23.4; T3 at 4.0 so Md. said to reduce my Armour Thyroid from 180 to 150.
I have stopped B-12 injections and am weaning down from HGH; from 7x to 3x right now. I will stop it completely as you advised.
Now, what do i do to start phase 2?
Is this where I am supposed to put my weekly report?
Please advise.
Thank you.

Carol, please see Where to find phases two and three.  Your weekly report should be in your Progress Report on the main study site.  The moderators there will tell you what to do :)

You can still come here to ask non-medical questions, and you can talk to other MP members about life on the MP in MP-Lifestyles.org.

Sorry, but I find the instructions being given to me are very confusing. Where do I find out how to get into phase 2? I filled in the questionnaire and posted my question under my account: carol165. Then I was told to post elsewhere. Now you tell me this is wrong? What do I do? HOW DO I GET THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR PHASE 2?
Thank you for your help.

Carol,

You have access to the Phases Two and Three Forum on the MarshallProtocol.com study site, click the "New Topic" button at the top, right hand side of the screen.  The top of the forum will also contain the guidelines.

The way your Dr can gain access is by following the instructions under
About our Private Section for Health Professionals

He or she will be manually joined into the database after sending an email to Moderators@MarshallProtocol.com listing their desired username and password.

I hope this helps Carol.

Best of luck,
Natalie

Natalie, G'day!
You solved my problem! No one suggested that I go back to the original website to get this information. I now have it thanks to you.
By the way, I loved Australia during my 2 visits. I am aching to return if and when I heal.
I hope that you are continuing to improve.
Carol

Carol,

You have access to the study site, http://www.marshallprotocol.com

Please start a new topic in the Phase 2/3 forum over there where you can report your meds - have a look at other's progress reports if you're unsure on what to write.

This site is for general questions only.

I'm glad you enjoyed Australia on your visit, I'm sure you will make it back some day :).

Thank you,
Natalie
