I don't have high blood pressure. I am certain I have TH 1 inflammatory disease but I don't know if this will be accepted by blue cross as a valid use for the olmesartan.

Hi Rico, northwestpharmacy.com is probably serving up it's web content dynamically based on the geographic location of the requesting IP address. It looks like the content that's supposed to appear for Canadian IP addresses isn't happening. It's possible they're just not interested in Canadian customers.

Maureen,
I am not jumping thru hoops for blue cross. If benicar is prescribed by my doctor, I suspect I don't have to explain what the doctor is thinking. Half the time, when meds are prescribed, there has been no explantion why to me, he says to, so I do. Plead ignorance if they ask. Tell them to ask your doctor themselves. Tell them anything you want to. Do you think they are going to say no? I would leave it blank or say I am not the doctor, I'm sure he has a good reason. When I pick it up at the pharmacy, they only collect my portion, ask the pharmacy how they answer that question.
I don't think it will pose a problem.

I did just call Northwest Pharm. For anyone who is wondering they did verify that the Benicar that is non-generic is the same medication we would get in the US!

I inquired about Benicar in IDA Pharmacy for Benicar. It was their first Benicar prescription and the pharmacist was a bit perplexed. Anyways, after some investigation, he said that he has it by the name olmatec. It comes only in two types: 40 mg and 20 mg. He does not know about Time Release or Non Time Release.
Does any one know, if there are Time Release or Non Time Release types in Olmatec?

It is also available in Toronto now as any other medicine. Sometimes the pharmacy does not know, in that case ask them to call schering and plough for the details of this drug.
There is no time release or non time release in Olmatec.

What is the price of Olmetec in Toronto?
I wonder if it is more expensive than the lactose free compound I have been ordering from Montreal. Will call there and find out today. If the compounded version ( which I get made lactose free) is cheaper and I can put the DIN# on and do and insurance claim, it might still be worth getting through Yetvart. Otherwise, I will go with Olmetec and a take a lactaid pill.

| So far yetvart gave a different din# then what is there in Canada Drug database for olmatect. So probably you need to confirm with Yetvart if they want to give you the standard din for Olmatec in Canada.

Great news for you "inuk2008"! I joined this discussion group 5 min. ago when I read your post. I live in Winnipeg and my current Rheumy has never even heard of the MP. How can I find out which Doc in our city is prescribing phase 1 meds?

I ordered more compounded olmesartan from Yetvart this week. He says he will put a DIN# on the bottle and I will try and see if my insurance company pays for it. If not, next time, I will order the Olmetec. BTW, Yetvart is still cheaper with the latter than Shopper's, but of course you have to factor in the shipping costs to other parts of Canada.
For those of you in the Greater Toronto Area, York Downs Pharmacy will compound your abx any which way you want and deliver to most areas for free. I got my mino compounded without lactose and at 25mg within one working day. Do note, however, that compounded drugs have a shelf life of 6 months only. The expiry date will be printed on the label, so be sure not to order too much and rather to ask you doc for repeats.

This may be a first.
Here in BC we have begun a topic in an ILADS-treating Lyme Literate MD's site, in which MPers can share their experiences, and answer questions about them. It comes with conditions that don't allow anyone to give their negative opinions about the MP, challenge or argue the science, or bash the ptotocol or any of the individuals involved with it.
Dr. Murakami (MD BA Bacteriology, Immunology Clinical Associate Professor Emeritus, UBC) has been treating infectious diseases for 15 years (mainly to do with Lyme and coinfections) all the while battling a hostile and denying Health-Care system. Although an ILADS-treating LLMD, he is a very open-minded, and believes that, instead of all the arguing over treatment protocols, MDs need to get together and study them collectively to see how they may best benefit the patient.
Recently retired, he continues his battle against the Tick-borne diseases, and the ignorance, hostility, and Gov't denial about the prevalence and treatment of these infections. He is well regarded not only in Canada, but across the US as well. He's actively promoting awareness, and has spoken to patient groups, Universities, Medical Students, corporations, and medical professionals at numerous venues in Canada and the US.
I'd suggest that all Canadians on the MP look in and contribute. You will need to register in order to view topics or post in the forum. Go to: http://www.drerniemurakami.com and click on Lyme Chat to register
See the topic here: http://drerniemurakami.com/forum/index.php?topic=672.0
Cheers

| where are you located crudhunter? That seems like a fairly good deal. It seems that the price of the Canadian Olmetec is coming down. Could this be true?

I paid $208.50 for 200 compounded capsules from Montreal. I have them made up without lactose and have been very happy with them.
Yetvart has given me a DIN# on the script, so I am going to see if my insurance company will cover the cost. If they do, this works out so much cheaper, still.

Wow! That seems outrageously expensive!!! I've only ordered once, from Yetvart and I paid $450 for a 90 day supply which is 360 pills which is $1.25 per pill.

It seems expensive because I made a typo in my post. The correct price is $101.00 for 90 x 40 mg pills. My apologies for the error.

Give your money to Yetvart. That guy is a first class human being and don't forget that he was the only one there for us for quite awhile. Remember the Glebe fiasco. We should be sending him Thank You letters and bottles of his favorite Cognac along with our scrips.
