Hello - I am lost here.  Have been ill for 26 years and probably going to try protocol.  Just wondering anyone out there with long standing instant onset Fibro/CFS/CfIDS. If so, how is the progress?   :(Sheila

Hi Sheila, and welcome!

Here are some links to introductory reading about the Marshall Protocol.  I hope we can make you more hopeful as you read of the good progress of many members with the same symptoms as you.

"What is the Marshall Protocol?"

Simple Explanations

(filelink) CFS success stories

Success Stories - inc. many fibromyalgia

D-metabolites tests

Hypervitaminosis-D Symptoms

How inflammation overpowers the immune system - Dr Marshall's comment on instant-onset chronic disease (if you can follow it ;))

Bacteriality - a readable blog-style website by one of our members, with science-made-easy articles, an introductory 90-minute video, and interviews with recovering patients - an excellent introduction to the MP.

Thank you Julia for your input.  I have been to most of these but I still would like to hear from people that have had at least 20 years or more of illness and how ithe protocol is going.  ;)

Hello,  I am new and was checking out recipes and saw many things tht contain hidden sources of MSG.  Dr.  Russell Blaylock can be found on line with the entire list and he refers to these as excitotoxins.  I personally have a terrible reaction to these things as I am sure many of you do.  For example some of the hidden sources are Malt, boulion cubes, Hydrolyzed vegetable protein, yeast extract,  Sodium Casinnate. Splenda is not an MSG problem but it is in the same category and quite toxic for most of us, maybe all of us.  I just felt that it was important to point this out becasue sometimes when we thin we are having a herx it could just be a reaction from any of the above.    Sheila

Our Foods Tips topic has a section on MSG and Splenda at this link.  You'll see that Dr Marshall considers Splenda to be the safest of the artificial sweeteners.

Thank you for the warning that MSG can be in many things.  All the more reason to avoid convenience food and eat real food! :)

Julia, Thank you for the MSG site.  It was a great list for MSG hidden sources.  The Splenda is truly a problem for me though.  My body pain goes through the roof and I get a bad headache.  What about using Stevia?  Is that a problem for us.

Sheila

Sheila, click on the blue words 'at this link' in my last post, and you'll see that Dr Marshall says Stevia is okay.  Please use the search box on the main site to see if you can find the information you need :)

On Tuesday I will see a doc on the MP list.  Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions to make sure this goes well.  I am quite excited to be starting on this road and a bit nervous.  So any input would be most appreciated.  I have done my homework and truly understand the protocol.  I am in the process of completing the download.  Thank you all in advance for any help on this matter.  :shock:Sheila

Sheila, even if it's a doc on the list we've given you, they may not know as much as you would hope about the MP.  So please have a look at Suggestions To Get Your Doctor On Board With the MP.  Good luck!

Will the antibiotic on the MP take the place of the Amoxycillan when having dental work.  :D

Please keep all your questions together in your own thread for continuity.

It's important to learn to use the search facilities on the main site to see if you can find the information you need.  How to do a site search

Using Google site search gives you two important links on dental work for its first two hits, and the third hit is about taking a different antibiotic for a while.  The same information can be found by finding 'dental' in the FAQs Easy Finder & the ABC of MP - it's a good idea to save this in your Favourites.

But as always, let me know if you're still having difficulty finding the info :)

I have been reading about the dairy products and I do not understand why the one's on the OK list are OK.  If all dairy products are made from milk and milk most likely had Vit. d in it how do we know that the cheeses, yogurts, etc.  are OK?:shock:Sheila

The amount of naturally occurring Vitamin D in dairy products will vary from product to product. It is relatively small compared to the products that are fortified. Yet consuming volumes of milk, for example, would result in a significant Vitamin D intake. Therefore we recommend the use of dairy products that have not been fortified with Vitamin D - in moderation only. This is taken from the link Dairy Products.

Unless, you prove to be having extreme difficulty reducing your 25-D, the focus of avoiding vitamin D foods should be on the big offenders.

Avoiding vitamin D from food and supplements is an essential aspect of MP. includes natural sources, such as egg yolks, fish, fish oil and fortified dairy products.  Also, it is wise to read all labels, as in some countries, you will see that Vitamin D is added to many foods… including some brands of orange juice and bread.

There also is good discussion at http://www.mp-lifestyles.com.

It seems hard at first to get the food think down but after a couple of months is becomes a habit:cool:

Take care, Jeannine

PS if you are worried about your calcium intake please see Don't I need to take a calcium supplement to prevent osteoporosis?

I don't believe you understand my question.  I have no problem illiminating dairy.  My question is this: How can we be sure that a manufacturer is not using fortified milk to begin with when they make a yogurt or any other dairy product.  The law does not require them to list ingrediants that are in the base ingrediants.  They only have to say Vit. D if they themselves add it in.  It is like the canned tuna situation.  The broth in the tuna has MSG, but the manufacturer does not have to list it.  I have heard that there are advocate groups in Washington that have been trying to get this problem cleaned up, but so far I don't see any change.  So let us assume that the Vit. D is  in the milk that they use to make the cheese but becasue of the law allowing them to do so they do not list it on package.  Is it then a problem with the MP?

See Dairy Products - the link that Jeannine gave you, which explains,

The amount of added Vitamin A is an indicator of unlabeled added vitamin D

(This is the third hit in a google search for 'dairy' on the MP site.  Please use the search facilities to see if your question has been answered :))
