Gene,

I previously read your interview and recently read it again just to remind myself of my relative good luck. We both had the lymph node involvement at the same time. How did you get to Texas?

Jim

Hi Jim,

By way of NE, NJ, Peru, WV, PA, TX, MI, TX.  It looks like I couldn’t hold a job :D  but it was actually all with the same company.

There were clues that something was wrong with my health at a young age.  I had pneumonia at age two and was extremely allergic especially to dust which was a problem for a farm boy.  Seems like my immune system was on a teeter totter with the bacteria my whole life.

A major improvement for me in the past year is that my sinuses have started to clear and I don’t seem to notice the change of season allergies as much. I didn’t expect the MP to improve that as I just accepted it and dealt with it.

Gene,

If you get to Dallas periodically let me know and I'll buy you lunch.

Julia,

I was planning to go on standard dose of benicar when I returned from my current business trip. However, for the last three days I have had a gradual rise in my pulse. Last night when I returned from dinner, I was running a slight fever and my pulse was pushing 140 bpm. Heeding Trevor's advice, I took 40 mg at midnight and then 20 mg every three hours. It came down steadily during the night. Didn't sleep much but feel fine this morning. Is this a typical herx? I plan to see my doctor tomorrow when I return to Dallas.

Jim

Jim,

I don't think you've mentioned what your current actual dose of Benicar is, prior to increasing it in a crisis situation.  I was assuming you were on 40mg once a day for high BP.  Dr Marshall meant you should be on the MP dose as a protective as you get your vit D level down.

While the increased Benicar may have helped to get the BP down, this is probably not herx, but rather your body struggling to adjust to the new levels of the steroid hormone 'vitamin D'.  (Also, higher levels of Benicar than the standard 40mg a day don't bring BP down any further - which is why it's prescribed at that dose.)

If you weren't just about to start the proper protective dose of Benicar, I would recommend re-introducing a very little D into your diet to slow down the withdrawal symptoms.  I do hope doc will agree to put you straight on to 40mg every 6-8hrs.  Why shouldn't we ramp up the dose of Benicar?

Julia,

Thanks again for youre attentiveness. I plan to see my physician tomorrow and ask him to move on with the protective dose. You were correct, I was on 40 mg/day until last night. We were orginally waiting until my next Vit D tests were returned -- about two weeks from now.
