My doctor is willing to prescribe meds for the MP but will not participate on line - doesn't even want e-mails.  (Too busy)  Could a Registered Nurse apply & receive the phase II guide lines for me?  - She is not employed by my doctor but  would supply my doctor with a hard copy of the quide lines.  Thanks,  Simply Sandy

Sandy,

Yes, the Professionals' Forum is open to registered nurses.  But I must add that a doctor who is too busy to update himself/herself about the latest medical developments is simply too busy, and you should find someone else, for your own safety.

What happens when you hit a rough patch, and your doctor hasn't a clue what's going on and isn't even willing to come to the forum for advice and information?

My doc also won't register online here. She seems to have her own reasons for not doing so. Perhaps, given the system here, she does not want to divulge any info about herself in case it somehow leads to an investigation with the College of Physicians etc. I am just grateful that she is following me and that she is open to the MP and prepared to read up everything I print up for her regarding it. Of course, it would be far better for her to be in direct contact with the MP staff, but I cannot force her to do so. Even being accepted onto a family doc's books here is no mean feat, so if you find one who will follow you on the MP, you make no waves and do the best you can to be the informed partner in the treatment.

In most parts of Canada, our doctors are just way too busy. One family physician can have thousands of patients who all are demanding attention, so we just have to realise that the onus is on us to keep our doctors informed and to keep ourselves up to date about new developments. We know that things are different in other countries with two tier health systems, but the status quo here makes it very difficult for us to simply go out and find another doctor, let alone one who will treat us with an experimental protocol.
