I have been lurking and learning around here for a couple months now. I was diagnosed with (confirmed through labs) Bb and Babesia in May 2008. Multiple LLMDs suspect (no positives) Bartonella too. For now I am rolling with a standard LLMD protocol. But the more I learn of the MP the more compelled I become.
So I am working on gripping the science in order to determine if the MP is a path that I should follow at some point.
Given the understanding of the MP I have, and the labs I have, I have come to what I consider a draft conclusion. On pages 5-6 of the BioEssays, FEB2008 under the head "Disabling the VDR delivers a Knockout Blow," I note two statements that seem to have direct relevance and resonance to me:
1. The increasing concentration of 1,25-D would depress generation of 25-D, which might mistakenly be reported as a "Vitamin D Deficiency." And;
2. Vitamin D metabolites will completely displace cortisol and T3 from nuclear receptors.
While I have not had 1,25-D measured, I will note that I have returned a 25-D concentration of 27ng/ml +/- .5 ng/ml on three occasions. In addition, a saliva adrenal stress test showed a cortisol burden of more than twice the top end of the normal range.
The BioEssay is explicit with regard to the effect of an elevated concentration of 1,25-D on serum 25-D concentrations. And it seems to me, given that 1,25-D would displace cortisol and T3, that elevated 1,25-D lead to elevated cortisol levels.
The non-medical rationale is as follows: if the cortisol cannot dock, than the adrenal glands keep making more and more in order to reach the appropriate concentration to dock.
Do I make sense?
(I know I need to have the 1,25-D lab done and plan to within the month.)
Thanks so much.

Hi JB,
I think no-one has answered your question because only Dr Marshall and maybe a few others have the knowledge to answer, and they're busy. Try this link: Why should I avoid hormone supplementation? Come back here if that doesn't help.
"What is the Marshall Protocol?"
Simple Explanations
Post Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome - Definition, symptoms, transmission, testing, treatment, MP Member experiences.
Papers for Physicians
D-metabolites tests
Bacteriality - a readable blog-style website by one of our members, with science-made-easy articles, an introductory 90-minute video, and interviews with recovering patients - an excellent introduction to the MP.

Dr Marshall's paper in Portugal talks about this, as does Amy Proal's about cortisol and thyroid.
