I have already printed off the recipes on the website all that I could find anyway. I was wondering if anyone would share what they eat and if you wouldn't mind sending any recipes my way. :D

Thanks,

Mindy

You might find some more recipes on the MP members' informal site MP-lifestyles.org.  Non-members can read there but not post.  One of our advocates, Knochen, has created a site of his own MP recipes.

Julia,

Quick question, my husband wanted me to ask if 100% stone ground whole wheat flout with 2% Calcium and 4% Folic Acid is going to hurt him? I told him I found a bread at the whole food store that I was going to pick up this weekend that is MP safe but he needed something to take to work today to eat.  Also he found Tortilla Chips that had 2% Calcium. He is changing his diet as of today and is just a little uncertain yet of what is right and wrong to have. We will get the hang of the changes just wanted to see what you thought.

Thanks,

Mindy

PS It also has Enzyme-Modified Soy Lecithin and Soy Flour.

Folic acid is thought to feed the CWD bacteria, when used in a supplementary way such as 'fortified' bread.  It's fine in its natural form in vegetables.

Soy does not contain vitamin D but soy products should be limited because they contain isoflavones which are immunosuppressive.

Thank you Juila, no more of that bread for him. I'm off to the whole foods store to get the right stuff, I sure hope this doesn't mess him up. We will get the hang of things, I promise!

Can anyone help me out? My question is it ok for my husband to have the brand Rice Dream Rice Drink? I don't think it's ok only because the label says Expeller Pressed High Oleic Safflower oil and/or sunflower oil and/or Canola oil. I know Canola Oil is ok but not Sunflower oil. So would this be ok, Yes or No?

Second question, Vegenaise Dressing & Sandwich Spread it's on the website but my concern was Brown Rice Syrup, Soy Protein. Is this ok Yes or No?

Last question, I found Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted 100% Whole Grain Bread which has, ORG prouted Wheat, ORG sprouted Barley, ORG sprouted Millet, ORG Malted Barely, ORG Sprouted Lentils, ORG Sprouted Soybeans, Org Sprouted Spelt Filtered Water, Fresh Yeast and Sea Salt. I have read the people on the MP eat this but was concerned once again with the soybeans. So can he eat this Yes or No?

Thanks for your help,

Mindy

Mindy, many Rice Dream products contain added vitamin D, so you need to read the label carefully.  You're right to avoid sunflower oil, but some of their drinks are made with safflower oil.  The amount of soy probably isn't enough to do any harm, unless he's drinking gallons of the stuff.

Vegenaise make different varieties, some based on grapeseed oil, which is said in unconfirmed reports to contain vitamin D, some based on soya oil, which we don't recommend, and some based on Canola.  Canola is usually highly genetically modified, but Vegenaise claim theirs isn't.  So the Canola one is probably okay in reasonable amounts.

Please see this discussion of Ezekiel bread.

Is salad ok? I did a search and found nothing. My husband was reading that the salad he had says 120% Vitamin A does that mean it has Vitamin D in it and should avoid eating salads? The salad is just made of all the leafy greens. Also since he has been avoiding Vit D he feels like he's nervous, feels weird kinda. Is this normal? He has not started Benicar yet as he donesn't have his glasses.

Thanks,

Mindy

The Vit A is only used to gauge dairy products and isn't applicable to other foods.

Salads are fine (no mushrooms!), but if you are eating at a restaurant, you have to be very careful of the dressing, as there is more and more sunflower oil (has D) being put into things like this. Restaurants are risky anyway - better to eat at home.

Also since he has been avoiding Vit D he feels like he's nervous, feels weird kinda. Is this normal? He has not started Benicar yet as he donesn't have his glasses.
It sounds pretty normal.  Some people get a pretty strong reaction to just avoiding D.  Remember, it's actually a hormone, so why wouldn't you feel a bit strange when you changed the levels?:)  Noirs may help or they might increase the sensation, everybody is different.  Once benicar is in the picture, the noirs are not optional.

I thought salad was good to eat, he's just nervous that he's going to eat something wrong. As we are having a challenge finding things for him to eat it's not easy changing diets but it will get better and it's amazing he's only been avoiding vit D for a week now and already it's taking affect.

As for Soy I have read to avoid it but it's not going to hurt if he eats something in it, right? I have been trying to help him sort through all of this he gets brain fog and shoot after reading and trying to make sure we do the right things for him I'm brain fogged myself!! Everything seems to have soy this and soy that, goodness I see why people say to grow your own garden. We are having a hard time finding butter and vit D free milk he would like to have it or a least some.

Thanks so much for responding and helping us out,

Mindy :)

I have read that some on the MP enjoy canadian bacon and I THOUGHT I read about pepperoni. Aren't these items a NO NO because they are pork? Can anyone tell me if these are ok to eat? We made pizza dough with MP safe flour and no dairy added and wanted to add the above but wasn't sure.

Thanks a bunch,

Mindy

There are a lot of items out there on the "It's hard to say" list. When in doubt, don't eat it! There are plenty of things you can eat without taking chances. Pork is off my list, except for possibly the sausage casings for chicken sausages, which are a tiny amount, and are not fatty. Pigs get fed all sots of things, probably including scraps that are D fortified, so you never know what the levels might be in the meat.

Remember that it takes MONTHS to eliminate the D you eat.  Until you get your levels down in the single digits, you can't know for sure.  Only then you can perhaps experiment with adding some items back in to see if your D levels rise.

See Foods to avoid and Food tips.
Peppers and deer meat are fine in normal quantities as part of a varied diet.

Ok, finally I was able to pull up info in the search engine about probiotic bacteria so I will read what it has to say. Sometimes my internet doesn't work well and I'm unable to serach for things. Please excuse the earlier post regarding probiotic bacteria.

Thanks,
Mindy

Hello,

Does anyone know how to make MP safe pumpkin pie or direct me to a link? I did a search but came up with nothing and most of the sites either were not found or I couldn't get into read them. I've searched on google but there are so many to read and so far have had no luck there either.

Thank you,
Mindy :)

We make just the pumpkin pie filling in a casserole dish following the recipe on the can of pumpkin, then use egg whites instead of eggs, splenda instead of sugar, and I don't remember if it calls for milk, but use 1/2 & 1/2 and/or a milk you are sure has no added vitamin D.  Don't think there is any problem with the spices.  Tastes great, especially with whipped creme (Make your own with splenda, or read labels of the canned ones.  The amount of sugar in the can stuff doesn't amount to a hill of beans).  Cynthia

The crust can be made with non-fortified flour and egg white as well for a traditional pie.

Still a lot of carbs in a pumpkin pie, but everybody slips on Thanksgiving.
