HEALTH INSURANCE BENEFITS FOR NoIR MEDICAL GLASSES
I have had many requests in regards to claiming health insurance benefits for NoIR Medical Glasses. Sydney Chris's approach - whereby he used a prescription from his GP to support his claim - is probably the best way to go, - at least for making a claim from a smaller fund. Chris says "I received a refund from NRMA Health for glasses, with a supporting letter from my treating Dr stating they were for medical purposes and as such were PRESCRIBED...! (ie prescription glasses)"
There are several hundred Health Insurers and they all have different rules for ancilliary benefits
The larger funds ( such as Medibank Private) have rigid rules in the area of rebates for optical products. They will only provide rebates for purchases from providers who have been formally registered with them.
It is not presently possible for the Australian Autoimmunity Foundation (AAF) to become a Medibank Private Authorised Optical Dispenser, because none of our existing volunteers providing this service would qualify as an Optical Mechanic or as an Optical Prescriber.
If we do have any Australian members who have worked as an Optician or as an Optical Mechanic, we would love to hear from you, as your "supervision" of our busy mail order room might be all that is necessary for us to become recognised by Medibank Private as an Authorised Optical Dispenser

The Wholistic Medical Centre is just across the road from Central Railway. There is also plenty of street parking in Randle Street. Please arrive a few minutes earlier. Look forward to seeing as many MPers as possible.
I'm a doctor at the Wholistic Medical Centre (WMC) who has started using the MP with patients. The WMC is just across the road from Central Railway and we have a meeting room that can seat 20-30, so if you need a free venue for your meeting, happy to help.
Dr Nicholas Bassal.

Fellow Aussies,
Just to let you know we had our MP support meeting last night (17-9-08) in Sydney (Surry Hills). Had 17 people who came along to share their stories and support each other with details of their experiences. It was very heart warming to hear from people who have done very well and are seeing results after months of feeling sick from the Herx reactions. They were a fountain of knowledge on so many matters and answered lots of questions. I can see that without that sort of support it would be so much more difficult to stick with the MP.
Because everyone found it useful, we plan to meet again in 2 months time.
I'll post about the next meeting.
Dr Nick

Sydney Patient Meeting - 22 November
We are pleased to report that another successful meeting was held at the Holistic Medical Centre in Surry Hills yesterday afternoon.
Around 12 MP patients at various stages of treatment and cure attended and shared both their experiences, hopes and questions about being on and progressing their treatment on the MP.
At this point we are scheduling our next meeting in February 09. We will look forward to seeing as many as possible at that time.
Best to all..

Dr Nick, the Australian Autoimmune Foundation and myself.. Sydney Chris
