I was diagnosed with acute pulmonary sarcoidosis in 1984-85.  My lungs showed "dramatic improvement" after several months of treatment with prednisone, and my disease was considered to be "in remission".  However, I've had recurring flare-ups over the years, and was treated on various occasions with 10-day reducing doses of prednisone, which again brought symptoms under control.  In 1986 I developed "Eagle's Syndrome" and had to have two surgeries to correct it.  Two questions:
  • Is the Eagle's Syndrome related to Th1 inflammatory disease?
  • I now have calcium deposits in a ligament in my hand that doctors say will have to be surgically corrected.  Could this also be related?  If so, are other ligaments also at risk for calcium deposits?
I have learned within the past year or two to keep major flare-ups under control through vitamin D avoidance, but still have frequent and prolonged periods of fatigue, foggy-brain, chest pain (though chest x-rays and ecg's are "normal"), so I know the disease is still present.  I am convinced the MP has the correct approach, and would like to start it.  A few more questions in this regard:
  • Am I correct in thinking my first steps are 1) to ask my doctor to order the D metabolites tests (according to ARF's "Guidance For Physicians" MP Phase I) and 2) ask my doctor to work with me on the MP?
  • If my doctor agrees to work with me, does he still have access to "Private Section for Health Professionals" on the MP Study website, or is that closed?  If closed, what are our alternatives?
  • What diagnosis codes are acceptable for insurance to pay for the blood tests?  (Sorry, I saw them somewhere on the MP site, but I can't find them now.)
Thanks in advance for your kind assistance.

Hi Lin,

Eagle's Syndrome is a new one to me, but a quick google taught me it's calcification of a throat ligament, and calcification of bits that shouldn't be calcified is quite common in sarc.  I've learned to ignore little bumps of extra bone, because where I had one removed from a finger (pre-sarc diagnosis) the finger was never the same after.  Still, Eagle's sounds painful, so I suppose surgery was your only option.

Calcium deposits can turn up anywhere in sarc.  If it doesn't actually annoy you, I would leave it alone.  The only thing that will stop further deposits is the MP.  If you don't halt them, the next thing to calcify might be more serious.

Yes.

If my doctor agrees to work with me, does he still have access to "Private Section for Health Professionals" on the MP Study website?

Yes.  He should send an email to Moderators@MarshallProtocol.com giving his desired username and password.  Phases 2-3 of the MP are only available in the professionals' forum, where he can discuss your progress with other professionals and Dr Marshall.

What diagnosis codes are acceptable for insurance to pay for the blood tests?

Thanks for your quick response!  I have a friend coming over this evening who's also just been diagnosed with sarcoidosis.  We are investigating the idea of starting the MP as buddies.  Will keep you informed.  :)

Now that is one of the best ideas I've heard in a long while.
