After much deliberation and discomfort, I figure it second best to have gallbladder surgery:(.  BTW.....the ultrasound report states the dx as 'porcelain gallbladder', but today the physician called it 'calcified':?

As a result of reading Trevor's comments regarding biopsies which I quote here (from 'Side Topics' (Cancer), I have a couple of questions:

Diagnosing Cancer Accurately

One has to be awfully careful of cancer diagnoses when one has a Th1 disease.

The gold-standard Flow Cytometry test gives false positives, as it uses two markers BCL2 (bcl2) and CD10, which are both abnormal in Th1 disease.

It is critical that no cancer diagnosis be given unless the pathologist has stained for both Thymal masses (by using a T-cell stain) in addition to a B-cell stain. This is becoming more and more rare these days.

After all, once the oncologist gets to see you, he is unlikely to see Th1, if he/she thinks it looks a bit like cancer. Worse, many oncologists think that Chemo will 'fix' Th1 diseases like sarcoidosis. Of course, they couldn't be more wrong.

..Trevor...

Diagnosing a biopsy correctly (staining for B-cells and T-cells)

Flow Cytometry tests for cancerous tissue, which are the latest technology, use some markers (such as Bcl2) which are also present in sarcoidosis and other Th1 inflammatory conditions.

If you are going to let your oncologist operate, make sure that they use the older technique of MANUALLY STAINING for B or T cell proliferation in the tissue they biopsy. This will distinguish better whether the lymph nodes (or tissue from any suspicious area) are inflamed by Th1 inflammation or by a B-cell, possible cancerous, proliferation.

..Trevor..

When the surgeon or PCP do not recognize that I have Th1 inflammation, I need suggestions for how to insist that the pathologist examine the biopsy with manual staining as noted above instead of flow cytometry.  When I spoke with the surgeon regarding having the biopsy examined with manual staining for both T-cell and B-cell, she said that T-cell proliferation would be discovered through serum studies:shock:

Would this type of biopsy be recommended for an ovarian cyst or intestinal polyp (tubular adenoma) as well?  If the pathologist fails to respect my request on the gallbladder biopsy, does anyone have suggestions for having either the ovarian cyst (1991) or polyp (1999/2008) tested as Trevor notes above?

Has anyone ever insisted it be done and had to pay out-of-pocket?

Thanks in advance for your help.  ^^Carol^^

Carol,

I don't know the answer to your questions - perhaps someone else can chip in - but I thought you might be interested in this research paper showing no correlation between porcelain (=calcified) gallbladder and cancer.

I am now recovering from gallbladder surgery  :?   In preparation for surgery, the anesthesiologist discussed some things with me and I inquired about my chest x-ray, concerned about the 2 pulmonary nodules I had learned I had (1 in March, the 2nd in June).  He said that they were probably just benign granulomas:shock:.  No doctor has ever given that name to the nodules.:shock:

In the weeks prior to surgery, I observed that if I were inside in a darkened house (for my dtr on MP), my gb pain was diminished.  Consistently, whenever outdoors the pain increased:?

I also want to document here that it was after I was at the E/R in March and given IV Rocephin that my gallbladder pain was exacerbated.  Prior to that, the pain was less intense and waxed and waned.

I wonder if there is a correlation between my 2 surgeries as it pertains to the science regarding the rapid change in hormones subsequent to giving birth.  Nine months after my first child was born, an ovarian cyst was removed. I had had pain during the whole pregnancy.  Back then all I cared about was whether it was cancer or not.  I wonder if the proper staining had been done whether it could have been sarc:?

Gallbladder sx began post partem my second child.  I wonder how I can get the pathologist to properly stain my gallbladder to test for both T cells and B cells.

Also, I have had one wax-packed ear for years........since I have been sufficiently 'in the dark' with my dtr, the wax has disappeared  :D

I submitted an application a few weeks ago, and in the meantime I'm looking for an MP supportive physician.

Most of my studying on MP is under my dtr's username.......No questions........I  enjoy reading on this site.    Thank you all......mom

PS:  Please correct me if it is improper to post in this manner. ;)

Carol, thank you for sharing your news.  Your improvements 'in the dark' are interesting and confirm that the MP is the right way to go.  I do hope you can find a supportive doctor soon.

Does anyone have a sort of numb feeling on the right side of the back below the shoulder blade?  I also have a similar feeling on the side of my calf and sometimes on my knee.

^^Carol^^

Hi Carol,

You might liek to see ;
Will the MP treat paresthesia and neuropathy?

I've certainly had numb feelings - both pre-MP and during (as IP).

Natalie :)
