Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency
Hello and thanks to all. Have recently been refered to the MP by a dear friend. My working diagnosis ia the Alpha-1 deficiency Emphysema. I have been having significant despnea for twenty years.
Will the MP be of help here? I notice that you list cystic fibrosis as treatable by the MP. Have been on o2 for 9 years, the last year at 6 LPM. Am still active (despite a Pulmonologist saying I'd be completely homebound and dependant by 40, have so far proved him wrong by twelve years) and now getting stronger with focused exercise and weight reduction. I know there are no absolutes here, could I be treatable with the MP? How do we determine if the tissues and structures are shot? Beyond help of the MP would be a better way to state that. Am also moving next year to a lower elevation. Twelve years past the date I would be helpless! I am not done yet.
Thanx

Hi Fido,
Congratulations on having survived the gloomy prognosis of your pulmo! I haven't seen anything about Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency on our main study site, but it certainly sounds like another of the Th1 diseases, which means it could well respond to the MP but we have no data yet.
Please see Is the MP an Applicable Treatment for my Disease? The way to find out if the MP will help is to get your D-Metabolites tested.
As to your chances of recovery, please see Safety Warning, which says in part, We have many members who are very symptomatic or who have been ill for a long time who are doing well on the MP. But you should know that if the disease process has advanced to the point where symptoms are extremely debilitating or vital organs are severely compromised, it may be very difficult or even impossible to tolerate the immunopathology involved in the healing process.
The degree of illness greatly influences the patient's ability to withstand the Marshall Protocol recovery process. Unfortunately, for some people, the disease process has taken too great a toll on the body and recovery is impossible. There is no way to definitively determine this in advance. It will, ultimately, be up to the individual to decide what level of symptoms they are willing or able to tolerate and up to the doctor to monitor biological processes to make sure they stay within acceptable limits.
The fact that you are active and able to do some exercise is a good sign. Dr Marshall believes that even fibrosis in the lungs can be reversed, but it isn't quick and it isn't easy.

FIDO,
Remember, too, that all the hubub about genes is now getting much-needed missing-puzzle-piece insights from a molecular level perspective, as the Vitamin D receptor (VDR) is responsible for the control of thousands of genes. As a medical professional, you may appreciate figure one in this recent paper:
New paper: Vit D discovery outpaces FDA decision making.
FullText Preprint available here.
Correspondence fulltext preprint is here.
I also recommend you frequently read Amy Proal's http://www.Bacteriality.com site. A good place to start is her recent presentation in vimeo (movie) format. Here is Amy's description and the link:
"In the following video, I explain the science that forms the backbone of the Marshall Protocol in simple terms. I discuss the bacteria implicated in causing chronic inflammatory disease, and explain how these pathogens affect the immune system. I also describe the basics of the treatment itself, providing information that any patient who plans to start the Marshall Protocol, or any doctor planning to put a patient on the MP, should understand. My narration is accompanied by slides with pictures and images of the pathogens and molecules I discuss. The video is 89 minutes."

Julia's links and caution are something you will want to consider with all seriousness. Time is the tool of pathogens unless we take control, and even altitude changes may not be enough to win your future. I hope you are able to use the information on the study site (alphabetical topic index/FAQ is a great study aid) and the questions you ask here, in your own questions thread as a worthy challenge for the time you will control, and as you work your decision out in your own mind and heart.
You might also wonder about the whole diagnostic naming convention problem and instead, look at:
